After 15 years in the herd improvement side of the dairy industry in south west Victoria, Noel Myers and his wife Glynis saw an opportunity in milk distribution and bought the Colac Dairies in late 2004.
With the purchase of the dairy distribution business, they took on the local distribution for Australia's leading milk brands, including Pura, Big M and Classic flavoured milk, which are processed from raw milk, much of which is sourced from Western District farms.
"It's ironic to think that a significant portion of the raw milk for Pura is sourced from farms just up the road" says Noel. "But's the nature of the dairy industry these days. We live locally, we employ local people and we support the local community - we're as local as anyone else"
Noel is heavily involved in the affairs of the town. He is a past president of the Colac Lions Club and both Noel and Glynis are keen supporters of the annual Cancer Council Relay for Life. Also, in partnership with Pura, they recently sponsored the Western Eagles Football and Netball Clubs and enjoy socialising at the club.
Colac Dairies operate seven delivery vehicles and employ six local people.
"It's quite a challenging area to cater for, as the summer holiday period effectively doubles our delivery volume" says Noel. "But it's great fun and it's a very wholesome business to be involved in. People need milk to help their families grow - it's a staple food and it gives you a real sense of satisfaction when you're catering to that need - especially when you are delivering great brands like Pura and Big M.
Together Noel and Glynis bring to the business very complementary skills. Noel has spent many years on the road servicing clients while Glynis has her own bookkeeping business in Colac and previously worked for a local accounting firm for 13 years - so there'll be no issue with your accounts!
"At Colac Dairies, we're building a reputation based on friendly, local, reliable service. We'd certainly like to thank our customers for their support and loyalty. You can expect more of the same local professionalism and commitment both now and in the future"
